OOCL Durban striking another boxship at Taiwan’s Port of Kaohsiung before alliding with a crane, causing the crane to collapse.

Local reports said that one worker was injured and two were trapped in debris from the falling crane at berth 70, and have since been freed. Videos from ashore show workers running away from the the faling crane structure.

OOCL Durban struck crane GC8 which buckled and collapsed, sending a stack of containers tumbling on its way down before coming to a rest against crane GC6.

OOCL Durban was built in 2011, is 316 metres long and has a capacity of just under 3,000 teu.

In a statement, OOCL said that the incident at Hong Ming Terminal happened at 1130 hrs on June 3, and that no damage to the hull of OOCL Durban was recorded on an initial inspection.

“Currently, we are maintaining close communications with the shipowner, their crew, and all relevant parties.  The cause and other details of the incident are under investigation,” said OOCL.
